You don't have to drive to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to see historic cabins! In fact, you can find the oldest cabin in the Smoky Mountains simply by strolling through downtown Gatlinburg, TN. Visit the Ogle Cabin to learn local history.

While many people think of the Western United States when they here the word "frontier," few realize there was a time where the wild untamed forests of the Smoky Mountains where just as rugged as the plains of the West. Smoky Mountain Historic Sites offer vacationers a chance to step back in history and discover what life was like for all the various folks who've lived int the region.

From the area's earliest inhabitants, the Cherokee, to the resourceful mountain people who lived in the region until the park's creation in 1934, Smoky Mountain history covers a wide range of cultures and peoples. Visitors can enjoy getting out and exploring the sites that take you back in time to these worlds.

Smoky Mountain Heritage Center

The first stop for any history buff in the Smoky Mountains is the Smoky Mountain Heritage Center. This Smoky Mountain history museum offers guests a chance to learn the history of the region by looking at artifacts from the various people who have lived in the region.

You'll also be able to touch history with the reconstructed village which boasts several cabins and vehicles. Overall, this museum provides visitors with a chance to enjoy the area's rich history.

Smoky Mountain Historic Places in the National Park

There are several areas within the park that provide guests with plenty of historic sites to explore and enjoy on their Smoky Mountain dream vacation. These buildings range from cabins to grist mills to barns and provide a distinct glimpse into what life was like for mountain people.

One of the most notable destinations in the park, Cades Cove, draws tourists not only for its motor loop's promise of wildlife sightings, but for the several historical buildings that lie off the loop. From picturesque country churches to grist mills, these buildings are snapshots of the past.

Roaring Fork also offers several interesting homesteads to explore as well as stunning natural vistas. However, this Smoky Mountain historical sites are often less crowded than their Cades Cove counterparts.

In addition to Roaring Creek, vacationers can spot remnants of Smoky Mountain history on trails such as the Sugarlands Trail as well as in areas such as Little Greenbrier. There is plenty of history within the park. One only needs to look to find it.

For each of the fields, please provide the following information:

There are several boxes that can be checked to broaden or narrow your search. Once you select your desired amenities or locations, simply click "search" to filter out available properties for your desired date. Once search results are provided, you can sort your results by bedrooms, name, rate, and rating.

After your first search, it isn't necessary to click the "search" button again as this feature will automatically filter your results for any new search features you provide, unless you change the date, the number of nights, or go to a new webpage.

It isn't necessary that you wait for a search to be completed before you select or deselect different search features.

When browsing results, you can add them to your "favorites" by clicking the red plus mark on the bottom left of your desired property. You can view your selected properties by click the "favorites" tab at the top of the search bar.

Add/Remove Favorites
When using our "search" feature, you can make a list of favorites. After doing an availability search for your desired vacation date, our site will produce a list of available cabins. Simply click the "+" sign on the lower left side of the property you are interested in.

Doing this will add the rental to your favorites list. You will notice that the "+" has now changed to a "-". You can click this minus sign to "unselect" this property from your favorites list.

You can also remove a property from your favorites list by clicking the minus sign to the right of the property name under the favorites tab. Additionally, you clear your favorites list by clicking "remove all" on the favorites bar. After doing this, you will have to perform a new availability search.
The number next to the favorites tab is the number of properties you have selected.

View List
To see all of your favorite rentals on one page, simply click "view list"

Compare Favorites
Under the favorites tab on the search bar, you can view your selected favorites. By checking the box next to your selected rentals, you can compare up to three properties.
Simply select the 2 – 3 properties you wish to compare, then click "compare" to see these rentals side-by-side.
Once you find your perfect rental for the right date, simply click "book now" to begin the booking process.
